Why it exists

Every other trackpad app has the same problems. Glide fixes them.

We searched Reddit, Quora, and the App Store for every complaint about Remote Mouse, Unified Remote, and KDE Connect. Here's what we found — and how Glide solves each one.

Problem
Doesn't work on hotel or office WiFi
WiFi-based apps require both devices on the same subnet. Corporate networks, hotel captive portals, and school WiFi all use AP isolation — which silently kills the connection.
"Unified Remote is useless at my office — IT blocks device discovery."— r/productivity
Glide's fix
Bluetooth HID — no network needed
Glide connects like a Bluetooth keyboard. It never touches the WiFi network. Works at hotels, airports, offices, classrooms, anywhere your phone can reach your Mac or PC.
Problem
Server install gets blocked or flagged
Remote Mouse and Unified Remote require a persistent server with admin rights. Avast, ESET, and Windows Defender flag it as suspicious. IT departments block it.
"Utter garbage. Avast keeps blocking the server process."— AlternativeTo review
Glide's fix
No server. Zero install on your Mac.
In Bluetooth mode, Glide needs nothing on your Mac or PC. Your computer sees it as a Bluetooth keyboard — no process, no permissions, no antivirus flags, no admin rights.
Problem
Connection dies when phone screen sleeps
Android kills background TCP sockets to save battery. Every time your phone locks, the session dies. Reconnecting often requires force-quitting both apps.
"Only connects properly about 10% of the time."— App Store, Remote Mouse
Glide's fix
BT reconnects like a physical keyboard
Bluetooth HID reconnects at the OS level when your phone wakes — the same way a wireless keyboard reconnects. No app restart, no manual reconnect.
Problem
macOS permission breaks after every update
Every WiFi trackpad app needs macOS Accessibility permission to inject mouse events. macOS Sequoia resets this permission monthly and after every OS update.
"After every macOS update Remote Mouse stops working."— r/MacOS
Glide's fix
Zero Accessibility permission needed
Glide's Bluetooth HID input is classified as hardware by macOS — the same as plugging in a keyboard. Apple never asks for Accessibility permission for hardware devices.
Problem
KDE Connect pairing is broken on macOS Sequoia
KDE Connect is the most-recommended free alternative, but it consistently fails to pair on macOS 15+. The pairing screen just spins. No fix from the developers.
"KDE Connect just spins on Mac. Is there anything that actually works?"— r/mac
Glide's fix
Works on macOS Sequoia — tested
Glide pairs as a standard Bluetooth HID device. macOS Sequoia's full HID stack works correctly. No broken daemon, no pairing timeout. Pair once, use forever.

FAQ

Common questions

Everything you need to know before downloading.

Can I use my Android phone as a trackpad for Mac? +
Yes. Glide turns your Android phone into a wireless trackpad for Mac over Bluetooth or WiFi. It supports all standard gestures: 1-finger cursor movement, 2-finger scroll, pinch to zoom, 3-finger Mission Control, and 4-finger Launchpad. It also includes a keyboard toolbar with Esc, Tab, arrow keys, and Mac shortcut keys.
Does Glide work without WiFi? +
Yes — this is Glide's biggest advantage over competitors. Bluetooth HID mode requires no WiFi at all. Your phone pairs with your Mac like a Bluetooth keyboard. This works at hotels, offices, schools, or anywhere WiFi-based apps fail due to network isolation. WiFi mode is also available for lower latency when both devices are on the same home network.
Do I need to install anything on my Mac or PC? +
In Bluetooth mode: nothing at all. Your Mac sees Glide as a Bluetooth HID device (keyboard + mouse). No server, no daemon, no admin rights, no Accessibility permission. In WiFi mode, a lightweight server app is needed on the Mac — it installs with one command and auto-starts on login.
KDE Connect isn't working on my Mac — can Glide replace it? +
Yes. KDE Connect has a known pairing failure on macOS Sequoia that has no official fix. Glide uses standard Bluetooth HID pairing which works correctly on macOS 15. Pair once from Settings → Bluetooth on your Mac, then connect from the Glide app. No timeout, no daemon required.
Why does Remote Mouse stop working after macOS updates? +
Remote Mouse injects mouse events through macOS's Accessibility API. Apple resets Accessibility permissions after major OS updates and (in Sequoia) monthly. Glide's Bluetooth HID input is classified as hardware by macOS — the same as a physical keyboard. Apple never revokes hardware permissions, so Glide keeps working across every macOS update.
Does it work with Windows? +
Yes. Switch to Windows mode inside the app — copy/paste/cut shortcuts automatically switch from Cmd to Ctrl, and gesture buttons switch to Windows Task View, virtual desktops, and the Start key. Bluetooth HID pairing on Windows requires the device to appear under "Mouse, Keyboard and Pen" in Bluetooth settings.
Is there typing lag over Bluetooth? +
Bluetooth HID has a hardware latency floor of roughly 10–40ms per keypress. Glide sends characters at 25ms intervals (a 5-letter word appears in ~100ms). For the best typing experience, use the keyboard toolbar's quick-action keys rather than typing long paragraphs over BT. For heavy typing, WiFi mode has lower and more consistent latency.
What Android version is required? +
Bluetooth HID requires Android 9 (API 28) or higher — this covers all Android phones released since 2018. WiFi mode works on Android 6+. The app is tested on Samsung Galaxy devices including the Z Fold series.
